Date
c. 1880–1885
Medium

Subject
City view

A wide panorama of Omaha looks northeast from the tower of the city’s high school, captured by the studio of Frank Currier. The Gothic spire of First United Methodist Church punctuates the midground, while beyond the rooftops the Missouri River traverses the frame toward the distant Council Bluffs, Iowa. This plate belongs to a documented series of topographical views Currier produced from this same elevated vantage, systematically recording the city's rapid expansion in the early 1880s.
