Date
c. 1878–1883
Medium

Subject
City view

A sweeping city panorama unfolds from the vantage of the old Omaha High School tower, looking northeast toward the Missouri River. In this composition by Frank Currier, the First United Methodist Church provides a central landmark against a horizon defined by the Council Bluffs, Iowa landscape. This printing on an orange mount with calligraphic side imprints represents an earlier state in the photographer's commercial output. It precedes a later issue of the identical view on a yellow mount, offering insight into the evolution of Currier’s studio presentation during this period.
