On October 1, 1875, the entire school-age population of Omaha assembled on Capitol Hill to greet President Ulysses S. Grant. Edric L. Eaton's stereograph captures the dense crowd gathered before the new high school, a grand Second Empire building demolished c. 1900. This view is the only known photograph to survive from the presidential reception, preserving a singular moment in the young city's civic life.
