A young Umoⁿhoⁿ (Omaha) woman holds her sleeping infant in the commercial studio of photographer C. Griffin. Such sittings document the brief presence of Native people who visited the city of Omaha from their reservation for trade or official business. This portrait represents an uncommon survivor from a studio not specializing in the Native portraiture that was dominated by larger operators in the region.
