From an upper-story window across Douglas Street, Herman Heyn captured this commanding elevation of Omaha’s Millard Hotel. The five-story Italianate block was for barely a decade the city’s leading accommodation, serving railroad executives and political elites arriving at the nearby Union Pacific depot. Part of the photographer’s extensive series on the city, the view preserves a lost landmark from a period of rapid urban transformation.
