Jackson Bros. · Omaha, Nebraska

Date
c. 1868–1872
Medium
stereoview
Subject
townscape
Origin
Jackson Brothers studio, Omaha, Nebraska

The Jackson Brothers studio documented the developing city of Omaha from the commanding rise of Capitol Hill. This eastward exposure, one plate in a larger panoramic sequence, captures a specific interval in the site’s history, made after the demolition of the Nebraska territorial capitol and before construction of the city's high school began. The resulting photograph preserves an unobstructed view of the urban core extending toward the Missouri River, a sightline that would soon be lost to new development.
