Rev. E. B. Hillard · N. A. & R. A. Moore, Hartford, Connecticut

Date
1864
Medium
Carte-de-visite
Subject
Portrait
Origin
Clarendon, Orleans County, New York

At the age of one hundred and five, Lemuel Cook sat for this portrait in 1864, then the oldest surviving veteran of the American Revolution. The carte-de-visite was published in Hartford by Reverend E. B. Hillard as part of a tribute to the last soldiers of that founding conflict. Here, the albumen photograph is tipped within a gilt and eagle-surmounted frame, opposite a chromolithograph depicting the veteran's New York home.
