A young man sits wrapped in a hide robe over cloth garments. He wears a turban with an eagle feather, large pendant earrings, and a circular gorget. In his right hand he holds a wooden self-bow. In his left, a feathered fan.
The card was distributed by Max Meyer, an Omaha dealer in musical instruments and fancy goods. A printed caption on the verso identifies the sitter as "Pawnee." A period pencil annotation provides a different description: "Omaha Chief. Omaha. Aug. 1869." Meyer acquired negatives from a variety of photographers working in the territory.
