A studio portrait by Strasburg and Company of Julius Meyer, the proprietor of Omaha’s celebrated Indian Wigwam. A German-Jewish émigré, Meyer became a fluent speaker of several Plains languages and a key intermediary for the trade of Native goods. His Farnam Street shop supplied early ethnographic collections across the country, and he was known among the Lakota and other regional nations as Box-ka-re-sha-hash-ta-ka (Curly-Haired White Chief).
