Bird's-Eye View from Capitol Hill, No. 3 (No. 27) — Yellow-Mount Variant

Wm. H. Jackson · Omaha, Nebraska

Date
c. 1869–1875
Medium
stereoview
Subject
townscape

A stereoscopic view of Omaha by William Henry Jackson presents a wide prospect of the city from Capitol Hill, looking north-northeast toward the Missouri River. While using the same negative as an earlier Jackson Bros. issue, this version on a distinctive yellow mount is a transitional object. The card pairs Jackson's new solo imprint on its face with a leftover Jackson Bros. paper label on the verso, precisely marking the moment he took sole control of the Omaha studio c. 1869 before his work with the U.S. Geological Survey.
