Among the Sky-Scrapers, Rulo, Nebr., No. 1

A dozen Rulo men and boys line the plank walk before a Champion Harvesting Machinery storefront. Their deliberate arrangement for the camera is part of photographer C. E. Yocam’s gentle conceit. He frames a two-storey commercial block to suggest a metropolitan canyon, a fiction supported by the card's own title. Its designation as number one marks the opening of a self-conscious, humorous series from the small Nebraska river town.
