Among the Sky-Scrapers, Rulo, Nebr. (1908)

A street in Rulo, Nebraska, is framed with intentional irony, its two-story buildings presented as monumental sky-scrapers. The plate is an unnumbered variant of another Yocam view from the same series, recorded three years earlier from a slightly different position. A postmark of May 1908 establishes the postcard as the photographer's earliest dated work in the collection by a considerable margin. The verso carries a handwritten quatrain, a sentimental fragment adapted from a popular Victorian poem.
